F1 Singapore grand prix.
Singapore grand prix.
An intriguing atmosphere at one of the longest races in formula one. A full two hour race, limited to that time on a track which twists and turns like a switch back. Add to that the fact that they’re racing at night, and the huge tyre wear, and it cant fail to be anything but an amazing race.
As usual we saw Sebastian Vettel take poll, with his team mate mark Webber in second, our own Jenson button and Lewis Hamilton in Third and fourth.
The cars wove around on the warm up lap sending sparks from beneath due to the maxed out fuel loads weighing the cars down. From a spectators point of view, the track looked incredible lit up in all colours and beautifully designed.
The cars exploded off the start line with Jenson Button quickly taking second from Mark Webber. Alonso overtook Hamilton and then Michael Schumacher dove in front as well. After Monza, this was definitely not what Lewis was hoping for.
The tide began to turn for the Maclarens as Lewis went round the outside of Schumacher and on the next lap, Rosberg, showing us some of the flare and fighting spirit we’ve all come to love.
Mark Webber did a great pass on Fernando Alonso into lap ten whilst Lewis Hamilton smashed his front wing into Phillipe Massa’s Ferrarri, puncturing Massa’s right rear tyre and dropping them both far back in the pack.
Lewis was given a drive through penalty for the incident, which put paid to any hopes he might have had of a podium finish in this race, as he fed back into the pack in sixteenth place.
Into lap 17 the top six looked very unusual. Vettel and Button in first and second wasn’t much of a surprise, but Paul DiResta in third made us look twice. Alonso in fourth with Webber and Rosberg bringing up fifth and sixth meant for an interesting beginning.
Alonso passed Di Resta in lap nineteen after being led a merry chase.
Sebastian Vettel cruised along at the front with his usual skill and smooth driving style, a full fourteen seconds in front of second place Jenson Button.
Paul Di Resta dropped back in the field after his first pit stop, but very soon fought his way back up into seventh, with his eye on Adrian Suttil in sixth.
Lewis Hamilton made it through to thirteenth in lap twenty four, desperately hoping for a miracle to get him back in the running. We saw Jenson Button come back from equally far down the field in Canada. What a pleasure it would be to see something similar from Lewis.
Paul Di Resta took fifth in lap twenty eight as Lewis Hamilton got into tenth behind Michael Schumacher.
Nico Rosberg chased down Adrian Suttil in lap twenty nine, hanging on his tail wind as he put immense pressure on the force India driver.
Shuemacher crashes out
Rose erg almost lost a place to Perez as Michael Schumacher misjudged his overtake on Perez, slamming into the back of him and sending Schumacher smashing into the barriers.
This put Hamilton up into tenth place behind Rubins Barrichello and Sergio Perez. It also meant that the race leader lost his vast lead due to the safety car coming out.
Jenson Button pitted giving him tyre advantage, as did Lewis Hamilton, obviously hoping for a tear up through the pack as he put on the super soft.
And there off again! The safety car came in on lap thirty four as the drivers put the pedals to the metal. Mark Webber took advantage of the closed pack to get past Fernando Alonso.
Lewis Hamilton attacked Adrian Suttil trying to take seventh place, but the force India driver cut him off.
Sergio Perez surged ahead doing spectacularly after the restart, as Hamilton tried desperately to pass his friend Suttil. Finally succeeding in lap thirty seven, as Suttil let him past, proving friendship is more important than victory for some!
Hamilton now up to sixth place looked to Paul Di Resta for his next conquest. The Scot and the Englishman dicing for fifth place, as the commentators eloquently put it. Lewis came out victorious and surged through into fifth place.
Sebastian Vettel breezed along in first place a full twelve seconds ahead of second place man Jenson Button, showing his determination to take another world championship title to become the youngest ever double world champion in formula one.
The race now seemed to be a test of tyres for Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. Which would keep their rubber off the road and on the wheels the longest.
Hamilton Passes Roseburg
Lewis lost out on a place as Webber pitted into new super soft options, managing to fly past Hamilton on his failing tyres. Jenson Button also pitted as his tyres fell off the cliff as well. The red bull team responded by pulling in the race leader Vettel, who nearly got wiped out coming out of the pit lane by a lotus!
Hamilton comes back out in ninth, though Button still maintained second place, now only none seconds behind Vettel, with Mark Webber following a close four and a half seconds behind him.
Lap fifty two, and Lewis Hamilton took Rosberg for sixth place, the new options giving him perfect traction to roar past his rival.
Jenson Button extended his lead, over third place man Mark Webber, to ten seconds, as Hamilton overtakes yet another driver to take fifth place.
Suttil and Rosberg fought tooth and nail for seventh place whilst Kobayashi caught up to Sebastian Buemi in thirteenth.
With six laps to go, Jenson Button floored his Maclaren, giving it everything he could to gain time on Sebastian Vettel.
The top five read Vettel, button,webber, alonso,Hamilton coming into the last lap. The sudden traffic of back markers proved damaging to Jensons bid against Vettel, slowing him down as Algiswari crashed, bringing out the yellow flags for the last lap.
Sebastian Vettel wins the Singapore Grand Prix as Jenson Button takes second only one point three seconds behind him. With Mark Webber in third, Fernando Alonso in fourth and Lewis Hamilton bringing up fifth place after another fantastic Grand Prix.
Spectacular fireworks signalled the end of another wonderful race on a truly awesome track.
The championship now reads Vettel, Button, Webber, Alonso, Hamilton. Barring a major incident, we could well see Sebastian Vettel take the world championship title at the next race.
Congratulations to Sebastian on another great race. To Jenson Button for another truly powerful performance, and to Paul DiResta for an utterly awe inspiring performance in his rookie season!
F1 Belgian GP
The Belgian Grand Prix!
For some reason, Spar always seems to deliver an exiting grand prix, and today was no exception. With an unusual grid line up after qualifying, excluding the top two cars, we saw Jenson button starting in 13th due to an apparent communications difficulty, Pastor Maldenado in 21st after a five place penalty for smashing into Lewis Hamilton in qualifying, and Michael Schumacher in 24th and last place because his rear tyre fell off causing him to crash out before he could gain position in qualifying. Sebastian vettel gave his usual flawless performance to gain another poll position, and Lewis Hamilton made second place on the grid. 
Nico Rosberg got the most amazing start we’ve seen in a long time, charging into second place off the starting grid, to then overtake Vettel to take 1st place in a very daring run. Michael Schumacher rocketed up into 14th place from last, showing we’ve not seen the last of this former world champion. A big smash on the 1st corner took out several cars, shaking up the pack and giving many of the other drivers a great opportunity to get through. Fernando alonso passed Lewis Hamilton on lap 2, as Vettel blasted past Rosberg in the third lap. Button and webber had to pit as their cars were damaged in the first corner. The Ferrari’s were absolutely on fire during the first quarter, though Lewis Hamilton gave them a huge run for their money.
So Many cars limped round the track with damaged front and rear wings. Evidence to the ballistic nature of this exciting track.
Vettel had to pit early for new tyres, dropping him back into seventh, as Alonso lead the pack into lap seven with a comfortable and ever expanding lead. Rosberg drove a fantastic and dry defensive race, reluctant to give away an inch of track, with Lewis Hamilton following hard on his heels in third. Third changed to second moments later as Lewis’s Maclaren roared past Rosberg into second. Sebastian Vettel tore up the track after his pit stop to take 6th and then 5th in quick succession.
Both Toro Roso’s retired early unfortunately, with badly damaged cars.
Webber refused to yield to Fernando Alonso, almost causing an almighty crash, narrowly avoided by Alonso’s skilful manoeuvring. Alonso later took back position, it was almost a matter of pride and his sheer pace and determination paid off well.
Every car battled spectacularly in this epic race, giving us what we’ve all come to love about formula one. A truly great day of racing! Each driver fought hard and fast for every position, taking all possible chances and wringing every last ounce of speed from the cars. Yet another truly awesome Grand Prix…
The line up into lap 12 read Vettel, Alonso, webber, Kobayashi, Petrov, Hamilton. An exciting line up to say the least. Kobayashi managed to keep position right up until a devastating smash with Lewis hamtons Maclaren. The crash annihilated Lewis Hamiltons car, ending his race and leaving Maclarens hopes in the capable hands of Jenson button.
The stewards decision to not penalise Kobayashi for an incident which was clearly his fault left us all gaping at the screen in horror. Surely if the tables had been turned, and Lewis Hamilton had taken out another driver, he would have immediately been penalised and made to do a drive through penalty, or some such punishment for recklessly endangering another driver unnecessarily. The decision to do nothing was a clear slight against Lewis Hamilton, and makes us all wonder at the fairness of it all, faced against the overwhelming amount of penalties Lewis has received in recent races. We all agree that Kobayashi is a great driver, and have thoroughly enjoyed all of his races. This however, was a poor judgement call which cost Lewis Hamilton the race, and could have been much worse. The lack of a stewards enquiry, and the decision to do nothing only gives credence to the fans worries about Hamilton being singled out for punishment in races. After the safety car, the line up was Alonso, Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Massa, Suttil.
Michael Schumacher sat comfortably in seventh from last place, as Button took two places to gain eighth in a very risky but highly profitable manoeuvre.
With the race not even near half way done, we were perched perpetually on the edge of our seats, watching in riveted anticipation as the incredible action unfolded before us! What a fantastic Grand Prix.
The Button Schumacher battle into lap 21 was breathtaking to say the least. With Button using every trick in the book to try and overtake the former world champion. Schumacher’s seasoned skills came into their own as he showed why he’s still a contender.
Finally button overtook on lap 22, and then took Adrian Suttil on a very risky corner which paid off to get him into 6th place behind Phillipe Massa.
A sensational move from Button saw him tear past Massa to take fifth place in yet another fantastic move. The sheer amount of overtaking in this race made it one of the most enjoyable races to watch in the entire season. Spar never fails to deliver!
The leaders all began complaining of tyre blistering into lap 27, which was music to Jenson Buttons ears as he stormed along in 4th, gaining ground at every turn.
Sergio Perez retired with broken suspension in lap 29. The fifth retirement so far in a Grand Prix which is seeing so many cars taken out of the race.
Vettel pitted from 1st place in lap 31 as his tyres were blistering too badly to keep going, leaving Webber in 1st with Jenson Button somehow having launched himself into second place? Button then took the lead as Webber pitted, and Vettel used his new tyres to his advantage to take back 1st place. The Maclaren team jumped into action, answering with a lightening fast pot of their own, with soft option tyres on, giving Button the extra edge he so badly needed. N
Michael Schumacher cleared the force india with relative ease to take 6th place. Having started last, Michael certainly proved that he is still up there with the best.
Into lap 35 the leaderboard read Vettel, Alonso, Webber, Button, Rosberg, Schumacher, with Webber and Button homing in on The Ferrarri of Fernando Alonso, in relentless fashion.
Webber launched past Alonso With the DRS wide open, and a perfect slingshot manoeuvre, the red bull stormed into second place.
Coming towards the end of the race, Sebastian Vettel lead the pack with a comfortable 7 second lead over his team mate Webber, with Alonso 2 seconds behind him, and Button 3 seconds back from The Ferrarri.
The battle for third place dominated the end of the grand Prix, as did the battle for fifth between Schumacher and Rosberg.
Barechello hit Kobayashi on lap 42, damaging his front wing and causing him to have to pit immediately.
Finally on lap 42 Jenson Button blasted past Fernando Alonso to take third place, as Schumacher storms past his teammate to take fifth.
Every single lap of this wondrous race has been an edge of your seat, adrenalin fuelled roller-coaster of spectacular driving and some of the most epic racing of the entire season so far 
The definite man of the day had to be our own Jenson Button. His determination and spectacular overtaking gave us an utterly brilliant race to enjoy. Coined as the pass master by the commentators.
Sebastian Vettel won with his usual style of calm and collected driving skill. Closely followed by Mark Webber in a well fought second, with Jenson Button gaining a third place podium finish from starting so far back in the pack that we thought it unlikely he would get as far as he did. What a fantastic race by all of the drivers, especially to Michael Schumacher who came up from last place on the grid to take fifth at the end of the race. No mean feat by anybodies count.
The Belgian Grand Prix in Spar proved once again that it is by far, one of the most enjoyable and exciting tracks in our racing calendar.
After three weeks of no racing, Formula One exploded back into our screens to give us one of the most fantastic races we’ve seen in the entire season. Hurrah!!
F1 catch up Hungarian GP (July 2011)
Hungarian GP
A particularly wet start to the Hungarian Grand Prix saw Sebastian Vettel in Pole, with Lewis Hamilton in second, and Jenson Button in third place. Jenson expressed his delight at starting in third due to the preferred track side position on the clean side of the track. The cars started on intermediate tyres, ready for a slippery start, and slippery it was indeed.
The only down side to today’s grand Prix was the tragic news that the BBC will only be showing ten races of next years Grand Prix Championship. After years of showing exemplary footage and stunning coverage of one of the worlds most exciting sports, the beeb have lost the contract to Sky, who will be showing all of the F1 footage. If this is the shape of things to come, where everything is judged by it’s financial benefits, then the world of racing, and the entire world at large is going to be a pretty awful place to be!
The first lap saw the cars slipping all over the place, giving us an extremely exciting start. Schumacher rocketed up the grid, as Jenson and Lewis battled for second place with Vettel fighting the wet conditions to maintain his first place. Lap 5 and Lewis Hamilton forced Sebastian Vettel into a mistake to take the lead
The cars had so little grip that it was more like watching a rally than an F1 race through the first quarter of the race.
Philipe Massa flew off on lap 8 but astonishingly managed to keep the car running and get it back on the track to rejoin the pack in 9th.
With conditions so changeable from sector to sector it going took a brave man to be the first onto slicks.
Lewis Hamilton lead the race as he stormed his way round the Hungarian course, showing us his usual pluck early on.
Button then took Vettel beautifully on lap 14, passing him on the inside to secure second place.
Sadly Jarno Truly retired on lap 21 with an oil leak, with the leader board reading Vettel in third, Jenson Button in second, and Lewis Hamilton in first place.
According to the teams, the slick tyres are only good for 18-19 laps max. This means that a two stop strategy would be a very risky business, leaving the car running on the tyre wall for the last few laps! eventually they were all forced to pit as the tyres were shredded on the changable track surface.
Nick Heidfelds Renault spun off and caught fire as the engine exploded on lap 25, having caught fire straight out of the pits. A Marshall was caught in the blast, but no update was given. We all hope he was uninjured due to the incident.
Lap 28 and Michael Schumacher retired. An unfortunate end to his Hungarian Grand Prix.
Massa passed Rosberg on lap 30 as Rosberg made a mistake and went wide on the corner, letting the Ferrari zoom through on the inside.
Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso warred it out for 4th place going into the halfway point with a highly watchable duel, as Vettel did the fastest lap of the race with a 1.4 faster than the leaders.
Kobayashi took one of the latest pit stop strategies in the race on lap 35 with his first pit of the race, though unfortunately it didn’t seem to push him far enough up the field.
Alonso and Vettel raced practically nose to tail for third place on lap 45 & 46, giving us some very tense moments.
Strategy was definitely the name of the game today, as tram Maclaren asked Lewis to make a set of super soft tyres last an almost impossible 25 laps.
Lap 47 saw an unprecedented slip as rain overtook the race leaders causing a real shake up in the leaderboard as Hamilton spun out letting Jenson Button through to take 1st place, and almost smashing straight into Paul De Resta and finishing both of their races.
Lewis retook the lead in lap 51 as the Maclarens battled for first place. Punch and counter punch as the commentators beautifully described.
Lewis was finally forced to pit on lap 53, putting intermediate tyres on the car as a spattering of rain began to hit the track.
The move by Maclaren proved to be fatal for Lewis Hamiltons race, as he has to change back to slick tyres, then had to take a drive through penalty due to his incident with Paul DeResta which utterly destroyed his chances of a podium finish.
Jenson button lead the Grand Prix into lap 61, with a pit stop strategy which clearly worked better than that of Lewis Hamiltons.
Algiswari was hit by Sebastian Buemi into lap 63 sending him spinning off, though he managed to keep the car on the track somehow, but lost several places because of it.
Lewis took fourth place from Mark Webber on lap 64 as Kobayashi held up the pack coming into turn 1. In Kobayashi’s defence, his tyres were completely spent, and he pitted straight after for fresh options.
The final battle of the race was between Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber, fighting it out for 4th place, as Button majestically won the Hungarian Grand Prix. His two hundredth race ended in spectacular fashion as he crossed the line in a well earned and beautifully fought first place!!! Congratulations Jenson. What a wonderful victory just before the summer break.

Lewis Hamton managed to pull back a fourth place finish, with Mark Webber close on his heels in fifth.
Jenson Button roared to a well deserved victory with his fist held triumphantly in the air. Undoubtedly the team celebrations later will be epic! It’s a good thing they now have a few weeks off to recover before the next race in Spar.

F1 catch up Germany (July 2011)
German GP
Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. This was race order after turn one as Lewis Hamilton shot into an early lead from P2 on the grid. The first few laps were inevitably nail biting as all the driver jostled for position, coming within millimetres of each others cars.
Alonso took Vettel on lap eight to take third place in a very bold move which gave him a big track advantage which later paid off well.
Vettel spun off in lap ten hitting the carpet which was soaking wet, taking him back by ten seconds into the sights of Rosberg and Massa.
Lap twelve saw Phillipe Massa finally take Rosberg for fifth place, whilst Hamilton and Webber battled all out for first. Mark Webber took a great opportunity, only to have Hamilton retake him merely seconds later, refusing to lose a place to the Australian driver.
Button and petrov were warring for seventh place with some spectacular sparring for position, giving us some highly enjoyable moments.
Webber and Alonso had a tense moment coming out of the pits as webber tried to take him just as they were exiting. Then Lewis Hamilton went on to pass Alonso in a truly brave fashion to take back the lead
Low tire temperatures in the cold conditions made for a very interesting race indeed.
What a wonderful Grand Prix we’ve seen today with some magnificent driving. The Nurbergring is still king of the tracks even in it’s shortened state.
Jenson Button had a phenomenal race having to fight for every position. In lap 35 he took Nico Rosberg out of the starting straight and into the first corner as Rosberg out braked himself to let Button through on the inside. Suddenly and tragically Jenson buttons race was finished due to a hydraulics failure. Commiseration’s to a truly awesome driver.
Kobayashi then began to charge up the field in his usual confident manner, overtaking Rosberg to take 8th place in what we’ve come to love about the plucky Japanese driver, with his unshakable nerve and fighting spirit.
The Rosberg / Kobayashi battle continued in true F1 fashion with both drivers refusing to give any space, but eventually Rosberg managed to get past to take seventh.
Michael Schumacher used Algiswary’s slip stream to take eleventh place in his usual racing flare. Showing us once more that we certainly haven’t seen the last of this great driver.
Nick Heidfeld retired in spectacular fashion as he flew off the track and utterly annihilated the track side camera as he sailed into the gravel trap. The collision was clearly not his fault, but the result certainly finished his German Grand prix.
Lewis Hamilton dominated the entire Grand Prix with his usual indomitable form, refusing to give track position, and often retaking a place only seconds after he was overtaken. Accusations of recklessness were forgotten as we watched spellbound whilst Lewis showed us why he is a true F1 one world champion. His aggressive driving style may not suit everyone’s taste, but no one can deny that it certainly gets results!
The last minute pit stops in the last ten laps had us all on the edge of our seats as the drivers fought for time sector by sector.
Somehow Hamilton managed to pull of his fastest lap in the whole grand prix with the slower tires! Amazing!
Webber pitted with four laps to go leaving Hamilton in 1st place and fernando Alonso in second. we were so close to the edge of our seats here that our knees were practically touching the floor.
A final last minute mad dash pit stop saw Vettel beat Philippe Massa to fourth place, as the pit crews were left to decide the final positions of the Red Bull and the Ferrari.
Hallelujah! Lewis Hamilton wins the German Grand Prix in spectacular fashion, with Fernando Alonso in second place running on fumes, and Mark Webber in third.
We can truly say that this season has been one of the most enjoyable in Grand Prix history, and the pit strategies, coupled with the constant on track battles mix together to create an air of excitement the likes of which only formula one can deliver!
An absolutely well fought and fantastically well run race by Lewis Hamilton. Well done indeed!!!

The Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Utter carnage met the start of the race as 5 cars fell foul of Liutzi’s car sliding out of control across the grass to smash headlong into the centre of the pack on turn 1.
Leaving the line up Alonso 1 Vettel 2 Schumacher 3 Hamilton 4
Webber smashed into Massa shortly after, spinning him round a hundred and eighty degrees.
Sadly for the Red Bull driver, he ended up crashing out trying to get back to the pits with a smashed front wing.
The leaders Vettel, Alonso, Schumacher ,Hamilton and Button fought tooth and nail through the first quarter of the race. With the engines roaring they tore round the track, challenging each other at every turn.
Massa took Maldenado on lap ten using the same manoeuvre that Webber tried on him earlier. Thankfully with better results than Webbers smashing overtake.
Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher gave us one of the most exciting races of the day as they battled it out in true F1 style. Hamilton was a little more reserved than he has been on previous occasions, possibly trying to shake off some of the bad press which has dogged him since the beginning of the season. Then Button joins the afray, overtaking Lewis and Schumacher to take third place. The commentators spoke of Schumacher using dirty tricks to defend from the Maclaren of Lewis Hamilton, though to be fair it did make for some very exciting racing. It was also nice to see Schumacher up at the front of the pack. Unfortunately Michaels tactics held up the Maclaren team hugely, giving Alonso and Vettel a massive advantage and a vast lead on Lewis and Jenson.
Maldenado, Perez and Algiswari were back and forth. On lap 19. A few tense moments when Algiswari decided to pass through the pair, taking 7th place.
Michael Schumacher jumped in after the pit to slip in front of an already frustrated Lewis Hamilton. Schumacher now clearly violating race rules by swerving back and forth several times to thwart Lewis’s overtaking, though the stewards chose not to reprimand him, choosing instead to speak with the Mercedes team principle, telling him to reign his driver in. Hamilton tried desperately to overtake Michael Schumacer time and time again, each time falling afoul of his own rev limiter which prevented him getting the necessary speed over The Mercedes which was running a longer gear set up to offset the DRS, and Schumacher’s indomitable racing style.
Vettel lead the grand Prix into lap 26, a full 12 seconds in front of Fernando Alonso in second. Jenson Button was fast closing on Alonso, with Schumacher and Hamilton in fourth and fifth a full seven seconds behind the leaders.
Finally on lap 28 Lewis Hamilton managed to pass Michael Schumacher.
Bruno Senna began blasting his way up the field on lap 31 to overtake Petrov getting him into 11th place.
As Button pitted into lap 34, Barrichello slowed him up, nearly causing a collision and obviously frustrating the Maclaren driver as his race with Alonso’s Ferrarri was negated by the manoeuvre.
A 2.9 second pit stop for Sebastian Vettel on lap 36 ensured his continued lead. The pit team truly showing their skill and practice with a sensational stop.
Jenson Button finally overtook Alonso on Lap 37 with a high speed pass, having better traction than his rival.
Michael Schumacher pitted from second place into lap 38, thankfully for Maclaren, coming out just behind Lewis Hamilton.
Into lap 39, and the leader-board was shaken up some more with the first six places reading, Vettell, button, Alonso, Massa, Hamilton, Schumacher.
Bruno Senna got up into 9th place on lap 41, putting himself in with a real chance of some championship points this race.
Bruno had an absolutely fantastic race, showing that he may well be a potential team leader in the future.
Lewis Hamilton closed the gap on Fernando Alonso into the last few laps, as Button chased the disappearing Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel.
As usual Sebastian Vettel led the Grand Prix most of the way, giving us a predictable 1st place finish in his own super smooth driving style. However any doubts about his ability to overtake and fight for position were put to rest when he exploded past Fernando Alonso at the beginning of the race with a spectacular manoeuvre.
The final result after an astonishing and thoroughly exciting race was Vettel in 1st, Button in 2nd and Fernando Alonso in 3rd.
With very few, if any drive through penalties or stewards inquiries after the first corner crash, this was by far one of the cleanest races of the season.
The Italian Grand Prix finished in style with a flourish of trophies, high emotions and champagne. An ecstatic crowd mobbed the pit lane with flags flying and voices raised, cheering and shouting the three victorious racers.
