Waiting To Fly – By Seed
The new tribute video by SEED…
Seed return after a two year sabbatical. Each member having gone on to pursue personal projects and refine their talents.
After the label they were originally signed to went bust, the Seed boys decided to spread out and see what they could create individually, before reforming and bringing all of the new material/skill-sets to the table. Lead singer and song writer Phil Marcs decided that the only way to move forwards was to have a DIY attitude. With this in mind, he began creating his own record label Revolution Records. After that, everything snowballed. ht was born, and with his business partner and web expert creating phenomenal websites to boost RevRecs web traffic, their off to a running start. SEO Guru Andy Malek, bass player extraordinaire, has optimised the site and set up blogging possibilities even the web community are trying to catch up with. Ian Rogerson refined his guitar skills and became a serious entrepreneur, whilst Phil Page took his drumming on the road, teaching, playing, and even building his own drum kits! Now that’s dedication to your art! The guys have been back, chatting about the future for a while now, and things are really hitting up. The up coming release of the long awaited album, Midnight Walking, will signal the relaunch of one of the uk’s most successful underground bands. With gigs such as a packed out Hammersmith Apollo, and 1500 strong Glasto show-grounds gig under their collective belts, this quarter are no strangers to the limelight. 2011 will see the release of Midnight walking, and the relaunch of a much awaited band. SEED. Watch this space!
When Things Are so Bad, They’re Good
I was just checking through the video archives and I came across Fouad Djaoublia. In my life, I have only ever heard one person sing worse than this, but that is another story. The thing about this guy is he was just so bad he won the audience over, I guess you would have had to have been in the audience at the time to catch the vibe. But one thing’s for sure, Fouad had the courage to step on stage and reach for his dream. Maybe it was his heart, maybe it was his courage, but from all the contestants thus far on X factor he is the only one I have written about.
I must admit Simon Cowell got this right, he did sound like something from Star Wars. For more X Factor videos see the Directors choice @ X factor
Catch Up Time! by Renee Rain
Well, hey guys! I know it’s been a little while, I have been absent from the cyber world I know, sorry but hey at the end of the day, I am an artist and I have been kept away by the goals and lists of aspirations that I seem to forever set myself but it is all good!
So, what is the latest? Well the SRT Show on Kbitradio.com is still going strong and picking up fans and followers every week. The week before last we had Ozzie B and the GMTA crew in the studio with us, who by the w
ay, have just released their official single “Maybe Ting Refix” ; which I think is a pretty cool track, I hope it does well and it is available on itunes. Check out the video on Facebook under the SRT show group page or you tube under the SRT show channel and Renae Rain channel.
I myself have been in the studio recording trying to finish some songs I wrote, so far three down 5 more to go, so hey ho! Hopefully by the end of the year might just have an album. You can preview my tracks on soundcloud.com (renaerain1) and also on Youtube, my latest single which I intend to release is called “What you Looking at” which I will be performing live this Sunday…speaking of which…
Nottinghill Carnival is upon us, which might I just add, I will be there not only shacking and waving my flags but will be live on stage on the Mastermind Stage, doing my thing performing my latest singles. So come down, check me and shake a leg, I will be giving out a limited amount of copies of my mixtape for free, which is normally online on itunes and other stores for download so not a bad deal eh!
Now I know this article has been quite short however, I am storing all the news till after the Carnival as there is bound to be something to write about and expose.
Well till next time “I’m out!”

Knife and Gun Crime “Is There a Case” by Renee Rain
SRT Show interview with Razor
Wow, a breath of fresh air from out of the area he came on time, with smiles and enthusiasm. To top if off, SRT were on form and myself Double R and Selicious delivered a great interview to a some what confident relaxed interviewee.
How easy it is to prejudge people, particularly from certain groups I.e. rappers tend to be (fill in the gap), grime artist tend to be…(fill in the gap), Black men tend to be…(fill in the gap) people from North West London are…(let’s not fill in that gap, but you see where I’m going with this) Black people….tend to be DAMN LATE to everything! Even when they are on time, they still late! Lol However Razor, proved wrong on all these prejudgments that people make, was well presented turned up on time, was very intelligent and pretty well spoken and yet he is Black, Male, from North West London, and a Grime/Rapper artist. Although I joke on this matter, in seriousness it’s quite scary to think that actually people do judge and many are victims of this who are murdered over such trivial matters.
This is just the kind of topic that delved into, would conger up the most heated debates, creating a great monster of a storm and leave others or most, sweating, panting and infuriated by the very thought that those under the age of 16 care more about what type of weapon they will bring to a party or next area code with them, than what colour t-shirt to wear, either which in this day and age could cause mass conflict, costly mistakes and result in death.
Scary though the thought may be, Razor tactfully tackles these very topics in his lyrical rhymes and demonstrates that it’s not necessarily about how tight your flow is but what it is you so wish to spit when one chooses to breath air onto the mic. As he so puts it, he likes “Rappers who are a bit technical with their lyrics, not that I have to necessarily rack my brain to wonder what they are going on about but just someone with a bit of depth”. Too true it is that sometimes the context of a rappers flow is over looked by how quick the spit/rap or how tough the banger beat and bass is behind them.
We touched on issues that are current amongst his community, which unfortunately are gun and knife crime amongst teenagers and how too common it is, to see rising deaths of youths from all cultures over silly crimes. This being quite a sensitive subject and not to be taking lightly, we were still able to enjoy his music and his thoughts on the music scene and just where he wants to be placed in the industry.
He is versatile in his music and covers all topics but what struck my interest was his track “Is There a Case”. I actually was fortunate enough to be present when Razor performed this live on stage which actually brought tears to my eyes as his story slowly unraveled the true stories of Steven Lawrence, Damilola Taylor and Alex Walker. Who’s lives were snatched unjustly and still strikes anger to most who hear about these articles. It is important to not so much highlight these deaths but more so lives and what gives us the right to take one without truly knowing anything about that person and then even if we do know the person, the repercussion of what is to come, the aftermath and who they leave behind.
Take a moment to respect those who wish to bring these topics to light and perhaps want to let out there pented-up frustrations of not seeing a way to better days, perhaps it is up to us to re-educate and invest more time in our growing youths in the community and realize, that it is us not them that are letting them down. There are ways to cleaning up societies but not via death.
We shall hopefully be having a organization coming onto the show to talk about workshops that focus on making safety and security amongst the community and knife and gun crime amongst youths. There are projects out there who are actively trying to change the way we think and the ways we operate in dealing with each other. Let’s support this and as musicians perhaps positively highlight everyday struggles and issues which perhaps helps us deal with it just that little be better and help ease the pains of many families.
Catch the SRT Show on Kbitradio.com each and every Friday evening between the
hours of 9.30pm and 10.30pm not only playing great music from the ground up but
also covering topics and showcasing talented artist.

UK Unsigned/ Live Unsigned Scam? by Renee Rain
Human as I am, I realise that we do often make mistakes. As much as I like to try being on the right path, in the music world, it can often be a constant fight of steering clear of time and energy wasting events that can sometimes become costly.
Being someone who strives to be in control of my destiny and calling the shots, I mistakenly let my passion for living my dream get the better of me. I had become blinded slightly to perceiving a “harmless competition”; which is suppose to spot good hard talent and an artist, who has a good following with a track record behind them and give them exposure and the opportunity to perform on a prestigious stage at a venue such as the O2 as well as a promising recording contract. Any artist who would want a helping hand in boosting public status would see this as harmless, after all “what have you got to lose?” so goes the phrase.
I normally try to avoid these competitions like the plague and refuse to enter them, despite the numerous times of being asked or in fact told “ You should go on X factor you know, you would win!!” Well turning down time and time again these opportunities, decided to say “what the heck” and gave into a promoter who as far as I knew, thought it would be good opportunity, seeing as he had seen my performances and rated me highly. Seeing as he had hosted this UK Unsigned and so forth before, he knew that with an act like mine would wipe the floor with that competition. I figured he knows the deal so I thought ok, let’s give it a go, if I don’t win the most I will gain is a bit more public exposure online. And so the voting started, I aced it!
Coming top in the top ten chart with over 505577 votes in the first week, getting all my online and offline fan base to continue texting in their votes, which by the way cost 50p per text, all the way up to the deadline, I was in high ranking, which by the way the deadline seemed to keep changing the more popular I became on their site and the further on the competition went. It all started to become confusing as to how the competition was being run. Long story short I win the votes. I come top in my category and by me contacting them, not the other way round, was invited to perform at a shabby venue in Ilford (far out from anywhere and by no means the easiest of places to get to), to battle it out in a final performance with whom I thought had been the top 3 finalist in the top ten as advertised on their site, however, this was not the case, there were many hopefuls who had been chucked in the mix to make up an entirely new competition which from this, the winner would then go on to perform at the O2 (see what I mean about confusing?).
Now I had been told differently, that as I had won the votes and was in the top ten I would be going on to perform however had to give a performance to the audience and judges and based on the performance and votes by 9pm would determine the winning result. After winning the votes and seeing my position had not changed from first place I still did not win? Their excuse had been that because I had used my own mic and it had cut out in the beginning part of my performance, they were unable to get a true feel of my performance. Despite singing live while dancing full routines to my own song, which had also been written and produced by me, as professional as I had come across and with the clear following, I still in their eyes was not quite good enough.
However they happily took the fees from all registered artist, excessive costly votes from all artist fans and apologising for the poor quality stage venue, equipment and organisation putting it down to only having a small budget they had been left with, which had been spent and put into the Gr
and Final show…yeah right! Although I managed to enter without having to pay, I’m sure there were many artist who had felt cheated by this competition. I spoke with an artist, who said he had entered back in 2006, yet he also did not go through despite his great talent and song writing ability and his profile is STILL up on there site, as if he is still competing. He said the following “I’m trying to work out how to take myself off their site as we speak” I said to him I feel it’s a huge scam,
He replied “I agree. I did it back in 2006 and thought the same thing then.
Everyone paid for the DVDs of the shows too and they never sent anyone the DVDs!
they make false
promises; and they change dates, and change prizes.
I do feel bad for all of those who had voted and showed so much support, it’s almost as bad as someone like Teedra Moses going in for a pub singing competition and then not winning! However the positive from this, is that it affirms my strong beliefs about these competitions and Talent shows and I know that it’s a mistake I will never make again. I also met so
me other artists and gained a little more online exposure, however I now know that with where I am at, I need to be even more careful as to how I am exposed as I don’t wish to jeopardise my good reputation of what I have worked hard and for so long to gain.
My advice to other artist who are trying to make it would be try not to let your desperation and passion for getting somewhere blind you to others, who see this as a means to make money out of you without you gaining any real benefit. Find yourself a good manager who really knows the business and has connections that will really take you places and with a certified track record of good successes. UK Unsigned do not seem to have winners who have really gone on to make it anywhere and online blogs and write ups clearly back this fact. They hummed on and on about Leona Lewis being a winning contestant on UK Unsigned, howe
ver if this was the case why is it that she then had to go on to compete and then win the X factor in order to obtain a recording contract? What did UK Unsigned really do for her that boosted her career that much? hmmm
Moving on…Some good news
The SRT Show went live last week Friday on Kbit radio.com showcasing fresh music from the UK and International artist in the industry.
The show’s host myself (Double R) and Selicious aim to deliver the show with such a vibrancy and exciting enthusiasm, that we seem to keep our listeners locked in for the whole show! as well as presenting great music for various listeners tastes.
Every week we feature up and coming artist who we feel will make an impact and produce a good following of their music.
We interview artist from all sorts of genres and keep it light hearted with a few comedian guests now and then. It’s a good opportunity for ourselves as artist as we have the platform to air our own songs as well as network with other artist and create our own following. That aside we know how hard is it to be heard and or seen in this industry and so create the opportunity for other artist too, trying to make it.
You can check out the show each and every Friday evening from the hours of 9.30pm to 10.30pm on www.kbitradio.com
This week we shall be featuring Ozzie B’s and the GMTA new single Maybe Ting refix due out 1st August and they will be appearing as a live guest for interview on 13h August so be sure to lock in for an exclusive show. Also this week we will have up and coming rapper Razor from South London talking about his mixtape and featuring his track “Is There a Case” which tackles the topic of knife and gun crime in the community.
Till next week, mucho love peeps ©
