Is UK Up The Creek Without A Paddle?

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

Please Note: Strong Language in audio track.

Fourteen days ago there were riots all over England, but I have made it the policy ICU Online will not serve any political agenda’s mainly because this is a entertainment network.  So without stepping into politricks I should first explain the MC is Rhymestein, he is a good friend of mine and with all that has been said in the media about London youth, rap music, UK black culture, I found it interesting to be able to see both sides of the spectrum.

You see I have the unique opportunity to know the author of these lyrics and I know how he sees life, and I also know people who are, (hmm how do I describe this correctly?) affraid of people like Rhymestein, because he wears a hood, is a rapper, oh and he is black.

I have seen the frustration Rhymes’s generation feel, they are asked to conform to a world they find false. Their standards and values do not match the standards and values of the society that they feel oppressed by. When a man feels frustrated, blocked, shut down, ignored, down trodden, ten thousand years of human history tells the human spirit will rebel, rise up, something must (will) happen to address the balance.

Where is Rome now, Babylon, Persia, Egypt? Our history dictates every era has its great empires, its great leaders, its oppressed people, its underdogs, its heroes and its villains. Rhymestien’s represents the heroes from a down trodden people, much like Robin hood in his day, because many youth who listen to these lyrics understand the emotion behind the words, they feel every sentence, verse and word. They hear what Rhymes is saying and hear the positive message between the lines.

But to the people in grey suits who streer our country they hear curse words, violence, talk of sexual activity and have no way to relate to any of this.

There is no opportunity for Rhymstein to go to university an polish his skills at the highest levels,  and the people who have the honor and privileged to shape our country have made sure this opportunity is completely nonexistent. Therefore Rhymes and people like him have to tap into their entreprenurial spirit and find other ways and means by which they live their dreams.

You will find Rhymes and people like him were not involved in the looting of these riots, instead he has his head in books trying to educate himself and expand his knowledge of his chosen profession. To Rhymestein turning to this government for help would be as useful as turning to a brick wall for a conversation. (Opps, did I just get political? sorry.)

How do we bridge the gap between our youth (who are the future of the UK) and our Leaders, (people who have the ability to pour money into educations etc)?

Well while we all figure out how to build that bridge, ICU Online will continue to find and host material from talented individuals like Rhymestein.

On the record, ICU Online is a huge supporter for underdogs and we are constantly thinking of ways to give hope and opportunity to young inspiring adults. If you have a way and means to assist in this venture feel free to contact me and get involved.

Please keep in mind the information super highway will fill our children’s minds with the way some people live, and if a person cannot understand why some people have, and others have not, there opens a door for negative emotion which can only lead to negative actions.

Now this is my dream house

If we are able to educate our peers, realize the problem is not the governments, they have not the understanding nor the ability to solve this problem, the real leaders and heroes will acknowledge the problem is our own, when we role up our sleeves and then work with our inspiring youth and young adults, not as part of some government run scheme, but as a volunteer of your own initiative or as a social entrepreneur, as a role model, then maybe there will be hope for our future.

But if we do not invest in the future of the UK, where will we be in 20 years time?

Log On, Tune In and Chill Out.

The Pizza Parable

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

I have a business theory I will share with you, for a long time now I have been setting up and running ICU Online and I have come across many kind of personalities. 1st there is Mr Cheese, he has his nice big block of cheese but you know he is not going to share any of his cheese with anyone.  Mr cheese represents those people who want to know what you are doing but will not share what they are doing.

Next you have Miss Tomato, she has loads of little ideas, she is always trying something but nothing ever really seems to materialize and her ideas always seem to get squashed by this problem or that problem.

Then you have the Peperoni Twins (not to be mistaken for the Jedwards) the “Peps” are movers and shakers, hustling here there and everywhere, have made a name for themselves but never really hit the big time.

Then there is Lady Sweetpepper, everyone loves Lady Sweetpepper, wherever she goes there is a crowd just wanting some of her flavour.

Then there is DJ Pinapple, his fruity flavor is sure to add enjoyment to any party.

Now one day Dr Doe was looking in his ware house, he had so much doe he just didn’t know what to do, and accross the road from his ware house was Mr Baker who was about to throw away a huge unused oven.

Just at that moment Mr Genuis said to Mr Doe “why don’t you take that oven Mr baker is throwing away, then ask Mr Cheese, Miss Tomato, the Peperoni Twins, Lady Sweetpepper and DJ Pineapple to work with you, then instead of each of you just enjoying what you have, everyone can join in and enjoy the output of the collective. A really huge slice of pizza.

Now if you understand this story, you will understand what ICU Online is. and if this is just gibberish for you, then I am sure there is something interesting on television you can go and watch. Go away.

In everything in life you need the right ingredients in order to get the right results. If you mash up banana, toothpaste and Branston Pickle in a sandwich, you will NOT get a nice result, in the same way if you try and do business with selfish people you will not get the right outcome. We live in a world where people think that by being heartless and cut throat you will gain success, but there are many business people like me who do not conform to any rules other than the rule of the street, do not lie, do not cheat, do not steal. People who think the rule of the street is anything else are not really from the street, because if you do lie, cheat and steal, you could end up in a shallow grave.

I do not lie cheat or steal when it comes to business, I consider how my actions can benefit those around me, and people who like to “stitch up” others me and my team invent ways to exact revenge. Harmless revenge in that no one will end up in a shallow grave, but you may just end up in one of our up and coming prank shows.

The new team that have recently joined ICU are a very talented bunch of individuals and I am certainly looking forward to my slice of this pizza.

Thank you for logging onto ICU Online, we are only just warming up.

Log on, Tune in and Chill out….

‘Human cannonball’ killed at live show

Monday, April 25th, 2011

A man acting as a “human cannonball” was killed in an accident during a stunt yesterday, it is thought a safety net failed to engage during the stunt. The un-named man, in his 20s, was rushed to Maidstone Hospital by air ambulance but later died from his injuries.

The accident happened during a performance by Scott May’s Daredevil Stunt Show. A second show was due to start later that same day but was cancelled.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “A man taking part in a human cannonball event this afternoon has died after it is believed a safety net failed to engage.” He said “the victim was in his 20s but it is not yet known where he lived”.

Scott May’s show has been touring in the UK since 1991 in a season which runs from March to September. As well as the human cannonball stunt, the show also includes pyrotechnics, motorcycle jumps and monster trucks.

Apple Facing Lawsuit Over In App Purchases

If you have kids who love iPhone apps, you may want to check your next credit card bill. Several parents have filed a class action lawsuit against Apple, saying their children were easily able to make hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of in-app purchases within free games.

One parent says he let his 9-year-old daughter download some free games, only to find out later that she spent $200 of his money to get virtual cash for the games. (Video Source: DemoDone)

The parents are suing Apple because they say the company is not doing enough to control in-app purchasing. But a writer for Apple Insider explains the company fixed the problem before the lawsuit.

“Apple has since addressed the issue by requiring a password for in-app purchases. Previously, once users entered their password to download an application, iOS offered a 15-minute window during which additional purchases could be made without entering the password.”

The lawsuit also blames Apple for approving apps with in-game purchasing and not giving enough warning to unsuspecting parents. But a writer for Information Week says developers are responsible for the warnings.

“While Apple may have communicated displeasure to Capcom about the high-priced items sold in Smurf’s Village, it is more likely that Capcom, as the game’s developer, added the disclaimer. That’s the way the App Store works: Developers, and not Apple, provide the text describing their apps.”

Finally, a writer for Ars Technica suggests a way to avoid the purchase problem altogether by having parents create a separate account for their kids.

“The account can be set up without connecting to a credit card, and instead relies on a monthly allowance or iTunes gift cards. Once a child uses the allowance or gift credit, he or she won’t be able to spend any more of mom and dad’s money without their approval.”

The Federal Trade Commission is also looking into the app purchasing issue.
